Legacy IP Porting · For Publishers & Rights Holders

Your classics, playable again.

You own the IP, but nobody can buy the game anymore. We take legacy titles from retro systems and ship them on today's consoles and PC. The originals stay faithful, the modern features players expect come built in, and we handle the engineering and certification so you don't have to.

Great games shouldn't need a museum

Thousands of games are stuck on hardware that hasn't been sold in decades. Some live in a closet, some in a reseller's glass case, and plenty only exist as an entry in a rights holder's catalog. Players who grew up with them want them back, and players who never had the chance are curious. Old games can still earn money; they just need a way onto the storefronts people actually use.

That's the gap we fill. A port is a fresh release for your IP on Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC storefronts, with your name on it, and it doesn't cost what a remake does.

Under NDA

There's more behind the curtain

The four systems above are the ones we list publicly. We already have more emulators running for other consoles, but they're under NDA for now. Once we've set up a meeting and signed an NDA, we'll walk you through what else we support.

Open to collabs

Don't see your platform?

Ask anyway. We keep adding new systems, and a good collaboration is often what decides which one comes next. If your catalog lives on hardware we haven't mentioned, tell us about it. We're open to building support for the right project.

What a Nami Tentou port could include

Every port starts with a faithful version of the original. What goes on top is decided port by port. Some partners want a pure, straight port of the game exactly as it was. Others choose to fund extra features that make the re-release stand out. Both are good options, and we'll help you decide which suits your game and budget.

  • Faithful PlayOriginal timing, feel, and look, preserved by default

Why work with us

We've done this before. Our in-house NamiPixelX engine has powered Sunsoft is Back! Retro Game Selection (Red Art Games / Sunsoft) and ports with Fista Productions, along with a long list of our own 8-bit releases. Input mapping, save systems, achievement hooks, and certification quirks are solved problems for us, so your project doesn't start from zero.

Your IP stays yours. You decide how the game is presented: branding, box art, marketing, and pricing. Our job is the technical path from "we own the rights" to "it's live on the store."

We can go further. Nami Tentou is also a publisher and a co-development studio. If you'd rather hand off publishing too, or want new content built for the re-release, we can do that.

Two ways to work together

Full-Service Port

We build it, you ship it

We handle the whole port: engineering, feature work, QA, and certification for each target platform. You get a release-ready build, and we stay on for patches after launch.

Engine License

Your team, our tech

If you already have a team, you can license NamiPixelX and build the port yourselves, with our support along the way. Sunsoft is Back! was made this way.

How it starts

  1. Intro call & NDATell us what's in your catalog and what you have in mind. We sign an NDA before any technical details change hands, and that's also when we can tell you about the platforms we don't list publicly.
  2. Feasibility & prototypeWe look over the source material and build a small playable prototype, so you can judge fidelity and feel before you commit.
  3. Scope & productionTogether we agree on target platforms, features, and a timeline, then we build it.
  4. Certification & launchWe take the build through platform certification, ship it, and keep supporting it afterwards.

Common questions

Which systems can you port from?

We publicly support NES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Sega Mega Drive. Other consoles are already running internally under NDA, and we can go through them once we've had an intro meeting and signed an NDA.

My game is on a system you don't support. Is that a dead end?

No. We're always adding systems, and a strong collaboration is a good reason to build support for a new one. Get in touch and tell us what you have.

Which platforms can the port ship on?

Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox, and PC through Steam, Epic, and other storefronts. We've found ways to support unusual hardware before, including arcade cabinets, and we're happy to look at other targets too.

What do you need from us to get started?

At minimum, you need to hold the rights to the game and have the ROM. Beyond that, our onboarding process includes a checklist that covers original assets, documentation, and any third-party rights or licenses involved, so we can do the best possible job for you. The more you can provide up front, the faster things move.

Can you port a whole catalog, not just one game?

Yes. Compilations are a natural fit. Bundling several titles into one release often gives players more value and gives you a stronger launch.

Do we have to add new features?

No. Features are decided port by port. If you want a pure, straight port, that's what we'll build. If you'd like to fund extras such as achievements, HD music, or new palettes, we'll scope them with you.

Can you localize a game that only came out in one region?

Yes. Plenty of great games came out in Japan but never in the US or Europe, or the other way around. We can localize a port so it releases in regions it never reached the first time.

Who publishes the port?

We're flexible. You can publish it yourself or with your usual partner, or Nami Tentou can publish it. On some projects, such as Sunsoft is Back!, we're credited only as the developer and the publisher's name is on the box.

How long does a port take?

A straight port can go from signed contract to ready-to-submit in about 2 months. Ports with new features usually take around 6 months of active development, with submission, certification, and testing all included in that time. The biggest factors are how many of the original assets are provided up front and what rights and licenses need to be cleared along the way.

Have a catalog worth bringing back?

We'd love to hear about it. There's no commitment and no pressure, just a conversation about what's possible.
